Swathed in blue colors and throwing up gang signs with blustery lyrics, Glasses Malone is a no-frills rapper and proud of it. But it's not his hood mentality that makes Beach Cruiser a bumpy ride. With backing from Cash Money's Birdman and Hoo-Bangin's Mack 10, Glasses can't decide if he wants to make a street rap classic or a mainstream pop hit. Guest spots from Akon ("Certified") and the Cataracs ("I Get Doe") seem out of place among declarations that "I sell dope" and an unexpected Toomp-produced T.I. tribute. Decent tracks like "Eastsidin'" and "Hold On" help tip the balance.
