Featuring the unmistakable screech of Ben Falgoust of Soilent Green, Goatwhore's debut typifies "blackened death metal," which means the music follows the stylistic rules of death metal but the lyrics are about Ol' Man Scratch and not about flaying people alive and eating their flesh. Falgoust certainly can scream, but it's on "As the Reflection Slowly Fades," where he actually "sings," that you hear why the dude is considered one of the most dynamic frontmen in the NOLA scene. Guitar-wise, there is very little "sludge" here -- it's all hurtling blurriness and breakneck speeds.
