Judging from his CD sleeves, Stuart Murdoch appears to enjoy photographing women in retro outfits as much as he does making music. This Belle & Sebastian side project marries his twin obsessions into a soundtrack. Murdoch sings a couple tunes ("Hiding Neath My Umbrella" is a highlight); Neil Hannon (of Divine Comedy) handles one; and a stable of female vocalists takes on the rest. "Funny Little Frog" gets recast as a soul burner, while "Come Monday Night" sounds like a long-lost 1960s pop classic. The vocalists are uniformly strong, though Ireland's Catherine Ireton is the breakout star.
