Governor's debut on T.I.'s Grand Hustle imprint is phenomenal. It's dark, soulful and packed with the sort of street corner vignettes that will appeal to fans of gritty urban music. Governor's vocal work is alternately panicked, tearful and transcendent. This isn't cookie-cutter R&B -- Son of Pain is singular and spectacular. Leadoff single "Blood, Sweat and Tears" is an obvious standout, but the entire album is solid.
