by Grass Roots
Released: Jan 1985
The Grass Roots certainly make fecund fodder for late night "Sounds of the '60s" infomercials, but that's only because the mercenary California folk-rock crew had such a shape-shifting sound. This collection -- one of many -- spans the group's prolific mid-decade peak, from the Byrds-flavored twang of their early work ("Where Were You When I Needed You," "Bella Linda") to the horn-driven, Motown-influenced radio standards they produced at the dawn of the sprawling '70s. Dig the psychedelic soul of "Feelings," and try not to sing along to "Temptation Eyes."
