The "metalcore" on this Phoenix screamo band's fifth album comes mostly from Ryan Zimmerman's wounded vocals, which retch as much as they whine. Though the music itself has moments of at least moderate heaviness (notably in "The Reaction"), it tends more regularly toward a kind of studio-smudged, dinkily clinking pop-punk -- augmented by children's glee-club choruses, march-of-the-wooden-robots interludes, spiraling string sounds and (in "The Postman," apparently about going postal) whimsical Tim Burton-score-like effects. At the end, a lonely ballad called "December" aims to chill your bones.
