With Emeralds and Oneohtrix Point Never having revived the sound of Krautrock's cosmic wing, New York's RVNG label reissues the debut album from Germany's Harald Grosskopf, Manuel Gottsching's colleague in Ashra. Released in 1980, it's a prime example of the era's synthesizer music, full of gleaming synths and blissed-out arpeggios. Klaus Schulze and Edgar Froese both come to mind, while the motorik drumming also recalls Neu!'s strong rhythmic backbone. Lovingly remastered, it's a marvelous piece of work -- both as nostalgic period piece and as a work of enduring futurism.
