Don Les laid out the walking basslines, Al Fiore played the chords, and Jerry Murad provided the stunning leads. What set them apart from other ensembles? They all played harmonica, performing classic standards and sentimental originals in a traditional jazz style. How it's possible to breathe as fast or as much as they did is still unknown -- not to mention through those tiny little holes (Bob Dylan it ain't, though they did cover some of his tunes in their waning years). Their number one hit "Peg O' My Heart" rocked the charts in 1947 and became their signature song through their various incarnations. Sadly, virtuosic leader Murad passed away in 1996.
