All Of Them Witches
Released: Mar 2013
Label: Rune Grammofon
This instrumental Norwegian trio -- women on guitar and bass plus a male drummer who digs John Bonham -- splits the difference between King Crimson heavy prog, post-Sabbath stoner doom and the avant-guitar fusion of James "Blood" Ulmer and Sonny Sharrock. The latter comes from Mollestad, whose chords excavate earth and crash through heaven, staying gorgeous no matter how dirty and elephantine they get. "Lake Acid" has the most metal title, but "The New Judas" provides the most thrashing rock. Other tracks start at harmolodic funk or funereal blues, only to wind up somewhere else entirely.
