Hella

Guitarist Spencer Seim and drummer Zach Hill started Hella as a duo in 2001, playing extremely intricate math-noise similar to Lightning Bolt but more melodic. Seim's style of tapping the strings gives him the ability to coax some pretty remarkable sounds out of his guitar. As a part of the early '00s post-punk avant garde explosion, Hella proudly represented the Sacramento, Calif., scene, touring the West Coast almost constantly and putting out records on the hip 5RC label. In 2005, they added a singer and a keyboardist, which greatly expanded their sound.
