Locust Music has dropped a string of archival releases from Flynt, and all of them are revelatory, especially the Back Porch Hillbilly Blues series. This music can be summed up as sounding as though an archaic Appalachian string band backing a long-lost bluesman from the Delta started the Velvet Underground. The four tracks comprising Volume 1 are the common gene between American rural music, droning minimalism and proto-punk. And here's the amazing thing: Flynt recorded this stuff in the early '60s.
