In the middle of his tenure as a crossover R&B funkster, Hancock unplugged and returned to dreamy post-bop piano. A solo set initially released in Japan, the first half of the album focuses on classic ballads favored by Miles Davis; the second half showcases original Hancock ballads (including the shimmering "Manhattan Island"). 2004 reissue adds alternate takes.
