Sans Antony, Hercules and Love Affair haven't quite managed to repeat the spine-tingling disco frisson of their debut LP, but HLA's Andy Butler gives goosebumps aplenty on his DJ-Kicks mix. Mostly setting aside his disco fixation, he focuses on jacking, soulful house from the '80s and '90s, particularly of the New Jersey garage variety, with its shuffling drum machines and blocky piano chords. In addition to classics from DJ Duke, Victor Simonelli and Klubb Kidz, HLA contribute a new cut, "Release Me," that's a dead ringer for the era he so adores.
