The Australian power pop band's second album, released in 1985, is a good example of what was to become "college rock," then "alternative rock," and eventually "indie rock." While such contemporaries as The Gun Club made music that was a thousand times darker, Hoodoo Gurus' aesthetic base in punk and affinity for The Kinks rather than The Beatles or Stones put their music decidedly left-of-center. They just weren't weird enough for the Violent Femmes crowd. Too bad, as AC/DC-riffic opener "Bittersweet" and killer rock 'n' roll rave-up "Like Wow -- Wipeout!" are fun, fun, fun.
