Snatching scraps of mid-'70s Southern rock from a skuzz-guitar, cracker soul tornado, Howlin Rain churn out manic grooves so coarse and electrified you can almost feel them scraping into your earhole. The band is the side project of Comets on Fire singer/guitarist Ethan Miller and Sunburned Hand of the Man drummer John Maloney, plus Ian Gradek on bass and occasional banjo. Were it made decades ago it would teeter alongside forgotten classics by Black Oak Arkansas and Ozark Mountain Daredevils. But this is today's country-crunk psychedelic thrash, and it'll freak you out fantastically.
