Label: W.O.W. Records
Considering both collections were released within weeks of each another, Huey Lewis' Soulsville and Phil Collins' Going Back are kind of like companion pieces. The latter features one classic rocker covering a smattering of Motown chestnuts, while the former features yet another classic rocker covering a smattering of Stax chestnuts. But unlike Phil, whose retro-imitative abilities are really quite uncanny, Huey goes for more of a "hey, we're just a bar band" sound. This makes total sense, because the News always were a bar band. Or rather, they always were a sports bar band. Get it? Sports?
