Muhammad has laid down so many funky grooves, he's practically the father of Acid Jazz. His work with Grant Green and Lou Donaldson has been sampled again and again (by artists like A Tribe Called Quest, among others), and his solo recordings eschew soloing for a guaranteed solid beat.
