The slinky electro-funk reveals Prince as an influence, but the shimmering synths, jerky rhythms and hanging vocals put J*DaVeY into the psych soul camp occupied by Platinum Pied Pipers and Georgia Anne Muldrow, among others. Occasionally the songs don't completely congeal -- there are more references than hooks, and the vocals are a bit thin -- but this compilation of two previously released EPs announces the emergence of a major new talent.
