Jack Rose, who passed away shortly before this record's release, tirelessly searched for new ways to blend his two primary loves: John Fahey-inspired raga/drone and Appalachian old time/country rag. Lucky in the Valley just might be the guitarist's most ambitious fusion, right up there with the great Kensington Blues. Near-religious compositions, like the powerful title track, have no problem rubbing shoulders with the back-porch simplicity of "Lick Mountain Ramble" and "Moon in the Gutter."
