Jackie DeShannon mastered close to every pop style of the 1960s, yet her finest LP, Jackie, hails from 1972. This low-key charmer has a natural, laid-back folk-rock feel to it but was met with public indifference. DeShannon adds plenty of Southern soul and country elements (making this the album where her Kentucky roots really show). Listen to her cover of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" or her rocking original "Anna Karina" — the public was wrong.
