Released:
Label: Big Dada
Two years after Ninja Tune's subsidiary Big Dada first tried to sign Jammer, the British MC finally drops his debut album with them. Grime may have lost some of its shine in that time, but Jammer doesn't sound fazed. Indeed, pulling bits of digi-dub, crunk, and soca together with grime's video-game bleeps, his beats brazenly flaunt pre-ordained templates; Jammer's voice—deep, meaty—pushes through the track with scant regard for strict meter, and is all the more thrilling for it. Highlights include the entourage party jam "10 Man Roll" and the rave throwback "Back to the '90s."
