Jane Birkin has been involved in music since the late 1960s, and she has always been an interpretive singer, breathing new life and meaning into other people's words. In her 60s, Birkin has finally put pen to paper and come up with a lovely batch of songs that reflect on aging -- "Madame" is a standout -- and looking back on her warm English youth (the title track refers to the winter vacations her family would take). Ironically, Birkin does all of this in French, the language of her adopted home, though the political "Aung San Suu Kyi" is in English.
