This Finnish stunner became a Grammy-winning star in her homeland at the tender age of 13. By age 17, Janita moved to New York City, eager to use that nod as a launching pad to conquer the rest of the pop world. She immediately earned strong notices for her live shows and cut her first Stateside release, I'll Be Fine, in 2001. The independent release got some exposure on smooth jazz radio and went on to earn universally strong reviews from a startling array of publications, including the Village Voice, Marie Claire and Billboard. Janita's sophisticated mix of 1970s soul, world rhythms and smooth jazz recalls past acts such as Sade, Swing Out Sister, Anita Baker and Everything But the Girl, rather than her peers in the R&B world. Janita's sophmore CD, Seasons of Life was just as strong, and got picked up and repackaged by Lightyear Entertainment in 2006.
