Jarabe de Palo got several Latin Grammy nods for this 2009 album, which got its U.S. release in 2012, and it's easy to hear why. This is warm, homey adult-alt, driven by guitars ranging from grungily contemplative to sunnily Santana-esque, jaunty saxes, strolling keys and especially, Pau Donés' easy vocals. If the sax feels a bit dated at times, a funky bass or Hammond organ assures that this is, indeed, '70s-leaning vintage (see the one-two funk punch of "Bonito" and "Pura Sangre," or the solid-gold salsa that's everywhere) -- a vibe that starts to take over in the album's second half.
