You're Only Lonely
by J.D. Souther
Released: Aug 1990
Opener "You're Only Lonely," from J.D. Souther's third album, gives anyone wondering what would have happened if Roy Orbison had fronted the Eagles an answer. That makes sense, as Souther wrote a bunch of Don Henley and Co.'s songs ("Heartache Tonight," "Best of My Love" and "New Kid in Town" among them). While the majority of the cuts on here reside comfortably in the no-man's land between country and lite rock (yacht rock, anyone?), "The Moon Just Turned Blue" is a perfectly Gram Parsons-like honky-tonk winner.
