Biography
(b. Budenice, 3 May 1742; d. Paris, 19 Feb 1790).
Bohemian harpist and composer. He was the most gifted and acclaimed harp virtuoso of his day. He studied with Haydn and joined Prince Esterhazy's retinue in 1773; later he made concert tours and improved the pedal harp's mechanism. He wrote harp sonatas, concertos, variations etc and a harp method (1800). His wife, Anne-Marie (c. 1755-after 1824), was also a famous harpist. His brother Wenzel (c. 1750-1817) was a violinist to Prince Esterhazy and later a close friend of Beethoven.
