Mess of Blues is a chance to celebrate the music of Jeff Healey while mourning his passing. The Canadian electric blues guitar master died of cancer soon after cutting this live disc (his first album in nearly a decade). Each track burns with the pleasure and pains of everyday life, which is what the blues are essentially about, after all. Blinded by cancer as an infant, Healey's unique lap technique allows him the ability to bend notes like nobody else. Healey's band cooks along with him, with tunes such as "It's Only Money" and a cover of Neil Young's "Like a Hurricane" as highlights.
