Cut before he even hit 30, this 2005 release showcases Jeremy Pelt's searching, alternately muscular and ethereal post-bop playing style. The young horn player (who has an especially pleasing tone on the flugelhorn) leads a septet that can do -- and does -- anything it wants to. Pelt isn't a major talent to watch, he's a major talent to listen to right now.
