Jesse and Joy are brother-and-sister singer/songwriters, and their music is really a lot better than that treacly concept would lead you to believe. On Esta Es Mi Vida, Joy -- though barely legal -- has a surprisingly mature and likable voice; she sounds a bit like Shakira without the trill. On 12 tracks that have a folk-pop vibe and are thankfully devoid of the fussy production that often plagues Latin pop, she and Jesse cover the bases of coming-of-age optimism and puppy love in songs that even a mother would love -- and might end up singing along to as well.
