Jessica Simpson is both trying on some new hats and trotting out some familiar strategies here. This second holiday album, a follow-up to 2004's relatively successful Rejoyce, finds Simpson abandoning the country stylings of her previous album in favor of full-on rollicking-and-rolling jazz-rock (think: Harry Connick, Jr.). She handles herself fairly well on those piano-bangers, over-sings her way through some ballads and tries out a breathy falsetto for "Carol of the Bells." But the track you mustn't miss is her bluesy duet of "Merry Christmas Baby" with none other than Willie Nelson.
