A music industry veteran by age 24, Jimmy Webb had already written big hits for the likes of Glenn Campbell, Richard Harris and the 5th Dimension, when this lovely debut LP was released in 1970. Words & Music wasn't the Tapestry-sized success it deserved to be, but Webb succeeds on artistic terms, marrying his laidback persona to melancholy lyrics, catchy melodies and daringly complex chord sequences.
