Troubadour

Widespread Panic covered "Travelin' Light" and we've all heard Clapton's take on "Cocaine" at least one hundred million-zillion times. With Troubadour, however, you get the real deal, as in J.J. Cale doing his thing himself. Think of any songs you've described as "laid back" in the past; the songs on here are triply more sedate. Imagine Jimmy Buffett minus the smarminess and heavy-handed approach, then nearly choked with Vicodin. Though Cale's style is as gentle as a warm blanket, his music always features a deep-in-the-pocket rhythm section and, in the end, is very much rock music.
