Label: Alligator
J.J. Grey is exactly what Alligator Records needs. Dominating the label are classic rock and aging bluesmen too in love with B.B. King. Grey, in contrast, is a sassy R&B growler from Florida who's as well versed in classic blues as he is the Black Keys. This allows Orange Blossoms to feel well-aged without devolving into retro shenanigans. Of course, it's lame to cite only a record's first tune, but the title track is pure Southern pop: soulful and catchy like Tony Joe White and Joe South.
