On his second album, Joakim expands upon his idiosyncratic electro-pop vision, incorporating acid house, Eno-esque ambient sketches, bluesy funk-punk, new age and psychedelic rock. "I Wish You Were Gone" is right up there with LCD Soundsystem's "Someone Great" when it comes to melancholy dance-rock anthems, while "Everything Bright and Still" suggests the gravelly dissonance of early Swans. The whole album gleams with a kind of tarnished grandeur -- as well as an effortless sense of cool inherited from predecessors like Leonard Cohen, Suicide and the Velvets.
