With Sinner,Joan Jett updates her de rigueur rock not so much musically as thematically. All her sonic trademarks are in place -- bloozy, big-balled guitar, hefty, stepping-giant drums, Jett's throaty, power-chick vocals. What's new is further insight into her sexuality and politics, as in the tracks "Everyone Knows" and "A.C.D.C" ("She's got some other fella as well as me") and "Change the World" and "Riddles," which samples G.W. Bush's infamous "Fool me once" gaffe. This is Jett minus the Blackhearts, baring raw riffage as well as her ever-enthralling personality.
