Jody Stecher is quite simply an extraordinary musician and an invaluable national resource. A multi-instrumentalist capable of dazzling playing on a multitude of stringed instruments -- including fiddle, guitar, mandolin and banjo -- Stecher has been a sideman to David Bromberg and Jerry Jeff Walker, not to mention Jerry Garcia and David Grisman. He is a singer of stunning depth, able to give traditional Appalachian songs a deeply personal feel, while at the same time transporting the listener to a different time and place. His knowledge of country, Bluegrass and old-time String Band traditions parallels Ry Cooder's deep understanding of the blues idiom. Stecher often records with his musical partner Kate Brislin, a multi-instrumentalist and long-time fixture on the West Coast Progressive Bluegrass and folk scenes.
