Body And Soul
by Joe Jackson
Released: Apr 1987
Joe Jackson's Night & Day was a chart smash that introduced him to a mass audience outside the New Wave scene. On this follow-up, Jackson decided to loosen up and play live in the studio again, going for a jazzy, Latin or soul feel at a time when everyone else was going digital. "You Can't Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want)" was a Top 20 hit in the U.S., and -- like "Happy Ending" and the tender piano ballad "Be My Number Two" -- was played on both college and adult contemporary radio stations, pretty much a first. Jackson would experience diminished chart success after this one.
