Laughter & Lust

Laughter & Lust by Joe Jackson
Released: Feb 2008
Label: Virgin Records
Nearly a decade after 1982's Night and Day helped kick-start the adult alternative genre, Joe Jackson plugged back in and fronted this lean, working group set. While many of the songs recall Jackson's angry-young-man past, the album's best songs ("My House" and "Goin' Downtown") could be on the more piano-based Night and Day or Body and Soul. "Obvious Song" did well on modern rock radio, but this became Jackson's first pop album not to crack the Top 100. Ironically, Joe Jackson-style angry piano-rockers like Ben Folds and Tori Amos were just around the corner.
