Taking a break from kicking ass and chewing bubblegum in raucous super-group Chickenfoot, the Satch unleashes his first solo album in three years, and it just might be his liveliest in nearly a decade. Deploying a power trio for the sessions (including drummer Marco Minnemann and bassist Bryan Beller), the guitarist leaves little room for error as he and his mates walk a tightrope between composition and groove research. Things get pretty arty at times, like on "Three Sheets to the Wind," which goes from Roy Wood-like art pop to agitated nerd-thrash in well under four minutes.
