Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano
by John Cage
Released: Jul 1999
This 1948 work is performed on an instrument of Cage's creation, a piano with a variety of foreign objects attached and jammed into the strings. In this way Cage creates an entire world of unique timbres unknown to the standard piano. As is typical of Cage's work, there is a great deal of mathematics behind the scenes determining the structure of the composition.
