On His Way
Johnny Paycheck

Before "Take This Job and Shove It," Johnny Paycheck played classic honky-tonk in the early
George Jones vein. (Not surprising, as Paycheck was in Jones' band and reportedly had an
influence on his distinctive vocal style.) Even in these beginning stages, the cuts on this
collection reflect the rough counterpoint to Nashville slickness that Paycheck became known for
as a key figure in the coming outlaw country movement. His first hit is here, the Buck Owens-
penned heartbreaker "A-11," along with 14 additional examples of superb '60s country.
