With Turn Around, Lang leaves his muscle-bound blues beginnings in the dust. Adding a gospel choir, more soul touches than ever and a very direct faith-inspired lyrical context, Lang makes the transformation into an entirely different performer here. A contemporary gospel album more than a blues release, Turn Around works on every level, and he is far more interesting an artist as a result. His well-placed falsetto, songwriting smarts and that choir make for an authentic record that captures the giddiness and power of a modern gospel album.
