Sometimes Lejos doesn't sound so much like a finished album as a template for a great album to come. Joselo's a decent vocalist and a wonderful guitarist, but many of the tracks here sound as if they're missing something -- and it's hard not to think it's Cafe Tacuba's sturm und drang. But it's unfair to compare Joselo's solo work to his work en groupe; taken on their own merits, these songs are sensitively rendered and at times quite catchy. If only we could get Ruben Albarran's voice out of our head.
