El Turista illustrates why all of us should sneak off to paradise. Finding inspiration in Cuban master Bola De Nieve, bossa nova architect Joao Gilberto, and a mellow life in a Spanish coastal village, Rouse mixes covers, originals, instrumentals and languages. The sound is lush but relaxed, with a string section working to heighten the romance and allow the more melancholy tracks to swell to near breaking point. While we all need some escapism in our life, Rouse uses tunes such as "Sweet Elaine" and the aching "Don't Act Tough" to remind us that real life follows wherever we go.
