The West Coast's Joshua Redman returns to a street-smart N.Y.C. mindset while delving into an Eastern spiritual realm. Besides further spotlighting his debt to Sonny Rollins on two Western-themed standards (Rollins popularized the sax/bass/drums format used here), Redman also calls out John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Wayne Shorter and his father Dewey Redman (who guests, along with Joe Lovano). Dewey passed away after recording this, and the album concludes with his loving solo ode to his new grandson.
