Heartland rock and contemporary country duke it out for bragging rights on JT Hodges' self-titled debut. Hodges follows two basic commandments when writing (he wrote or co-wrote eight out of the 10 songs here): create detailed character development and craft hooky, sing-along choruses. Hodges draws on early pioneers such as Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly with the simplistic rhythms of "I'd Rather Be Wrong Than Lonely," while taking country-rock cues from the Eagles for the jangling "Leaving Me Later." Other highlights include "Give It One More Night," "Hunt You Down" and "Rhythm of the Radio."
