Home Sweet Home
Released: Jun 2005
There's a lot of jittery noise and gigantically soft, gelatin bass -- as if post-millennium British youth were too Ritalin-addled to digest what hip-hop was supposed to sound like. It's a great backdrop for a rhyme style that's too dense and introspective to be labeled "grime" yet too spitfire quick for normal rap paces. "Ghetto Kid," "P&Qs," "Mic Check 1 2" and "9-5" are all standouts. British pop music has always imagined itself as working class, but this feels like the real deal.
