Piano Works Vol. 1
Released: Apr 1995
After the completion of King Roger, Szymanowski looked to the Tatra highlands for inspiration, writing mazurkas and a suite of four Polish dances in the 1920s. Partially a response to Chopin, Szymanowski's mazurkas reimagine the themes and rhythmic propulsion of the Polish folk with a distinctly 20th century palette of harmonic complexities.
