Even one of People's 50 Most Beautiful People wouldn't be able to hide a bad album behind a pretty face. Fortunately, Karyme Lozano doesn't have to -- Prohibido is a pop triumph. Just when you think Lozano and her producers have hit upon a winning combination -- frothy pop, cumbia and dialed-down reggaeton beats -- they change the pace, sounding defiantly Mexican one minute (with deft mariachi samples) and then embracing tropical pop-rock. The result beguiles almost from start to finish, thanks in no small part to Lozano's hard work, which made the outcome seem effortless.
