The dance-pop of Katharine McPhee's debut didn't really suit her, but we're not so sure we're sold on the adult-alternative turn she's taken for her sophomore effort either. In theory, this is probably the perfect direction for her warm, honeyed vocals and mellow, Norah Jones-esque vibe, as the album's most successful tracks ("It's Not Right," the jaunty "Lifetime") prove. But in practice, it's just a bit ... bland. Certainly not a sonic realization of that kicky blonde wig she wears on the cover -- except for the yummy, perfectly crooned cover of "Brand New Key."
